Marking Criteria

1. Holding a shot steady where appropriate
Here we can see we have two continuous shots, one after the other, held steady with the use of a tripod. Throughout the music video there are many examples of different Steady shots due to the fact that through our music video research Paramore have steady shots throughout their arsenal.

2. Framing a shot including and excluding elements

The first shot is of our actress. The shot includes a lot of background and empty space. This is to give the audience the idea that she is alone. Nobody is around her and there is nothing homely showing her loneliness and how secluded she is.
The second shot is of the lead singer and bassist. The shot is close up with little background or empty space. This is typical of Paramore video's as there are a lot of meet shots included.

3. Using a variety of shot distances

Throughout the video we use a variety of shot distances to coincide with previous video's of our music genre. The two examples used are of the actress. The first is a medium close-up and the other is a long distance shot.

4. Shooting material appropriate to the task

Shot one show an image of our actress and her 'prince' which follows the lyrics;
'Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick'
We have shown that it was a trick through the use of a change of pallet. Through the actress's misconceptions we have a rose coloured glaze to refare to a well known term, 'seeing the world through rose coloured glasses.' When her Prince disappears the colour then changes back to the dull grey tone we had already in place.
The second shot shows a page turn. This is to collaborate with the lyrics;
'She lives in a fairy tale'.

5. Selecting mise-en-scene

The Mise-en-scene was simple in both costume and setting. For the band and singer we choose costume similar to costumes featured in other Paramore videos which are usually band T-shirts, Jeans, Checkered shirts and casual clothes. The background is also in keeping with the style as in a lot of Paramore's videos they use bold and colourfull backgrounds for the band shots which is what we have done.
The actress is wearing ragged and ripped clothes to show she is poor and in ill condition her face is pale and grimy. We have kept the theme however and she is wearing an orange t-shirt to show continuity through the band shots and the narrative.

6. Editing so that the video meaning is apparent

In the two shots present we see the actress walking and huddled up. We have edited this to show that she is searching for a better life. In the video she briefly finds this;
'Her prince finally came to save her'
We have done this because the lyrics of the song tell the story of a girl who tries to find her way but doesn't manage to. We have tried to capture this through editing the actress' path to make it seem like she walks a long way, to no avail as the story rewinds at the end of the song and she wakes up to repeat her pointless journey.

7. Using varied shot transitions

Through the video we have used numerous transitions from sharp cuts to cutted pans and the pages turns to marry up with the lyrics.

8. Using sound with images

The first shot shows the actress popping out of a hole in the ground. This is representational to the lyrics;
'And we'll dig a deep hole'.
She is emerging from the hole as these particular lyrics are sang.
The second frame is of the guitarist tapping his guitar in time with the music showing the use of sound with images.

Music Video Evaluation Question 4

Thursday, 27 January 2011

Bonus DVD

We have included a bonus DVD in our Digipak bundle which shows footage of some of the places we went to film our video. It has bloopers, and is presented in fast forward so that it isn't too long and doesn't drag. It is typical to the genre and other famous bands will include a bonus DVD or CD within their CD packs.

Final Cut

After many hours of editing and enhancing our rough footage using Final Cut and Photoshop, this is our final music video- presented in widescreen.
