9 Shot Analysis

Shot 1- In the first chosen shot we see a close up of the lead singer as he lip syncs the opening lines of the video, this could be done to remind the audience who the singer is as his voice is very distinctive and this song is part of a comeback album. His face is enclosed in the frame with only 3 dots of light shown around him. The shot is made up of panning around the lead actor of the video as he sings the lines almost directly into the camera. We can’t really see any make up or costume in this shot due to the low lighting.

Shot 2- The second shot shows a symbol on the drum kit used in the music video; it is a close up shot which is followed by a medium close up of the drummer himself. The lighting is still dark but is fading throughout and as the main part of the song comes it gets brighter in the whole frame

Shot 3- In the third shot we see a medium close up of the 2 main singers and the female singer is in focus of the frame. The male singer is covered by smoke but is singing with a microphone so we are aware of his presence. The frame shows the upper body of both of them so we can see extravagant costumes and big hair and make up.

Shot 4- We see 5 members of the band in shot 4 and only the singer is in focus of the frame. The instruments are shown as props and the performance is starting to kick in at this point in the song. The scene flashes from on top of a double decker bus to other places where the singers are prancing around lip syncing the song.

Shot 5- The 5th shot is about half way through the music video and is a distant shot showing most members of the band. The lighting is limited and there are green bands of light protruding from the back of the bus. The scene shows the band travelling along a pretty empty street singing loudly to an upbeat and dance style song.

Shot 6- The band members are shown lip syncing the song at this point and their expressions are emotional during this, they look like they are enjoying themselves. The drummer is shown in the frame but the two singers are mostly seen because of the smoke effects covering the other people. The light is still low throughout and the camera is hung at a parallel canted angle to the singers.

Shot 7- In this shot we see at least 10 members of the public attempting to cross the street in a cityscape. None of the people shown in the scene are band members which is why we can tell that it is likely to be a group of rehearsed actors to aid the music video. There is much more significant lighting at this point and the song is at its most vibrant which could be a reason for this. The camera switches from this seen back to the singers which are shown in the next shot.

Shot 8- A very distant shot shows the band on top of a double decker bus far along a quiet dark road. The beams of light are a symbol of the band approaching and we can see that they are travelling as though they are in a parade doing a show to the surrounding audience. The frame shows mainly the street and a small part of it is the bus with the singers on.

Shot 9- In the final chosen shot we can see the 4 main band members with increased amounts of body language (arms in the air), and the instruments are still shown as props at this point. The costume remains the same as before and we can now see that there is only 1 female character in the band. The frame consists of a lot and it is more interesting than previous shots as much more is going on in it.
